Have you ever decided to make changes in your life and then had the shit hit the fan?
Whether it was an unexpected bill when you had finally lowered your credit card balance and even had a little money saved up or maybe you had decided to sort out your personal life and then had one or two abrupt desertions from friends/family and
you thought, what-in-the-holy-Hannah-is-going-on?! I’m trying to upgrade my life, not have everything fall apart!
You’re not alone.
The moment I decided to take my life back, I started putting some big changes in motion. I decided to start a new business, clean up my eating, start working out 6 days a week and end an on-again-off-again relationship. I knew I was worthy of better and it was time to claim it.
But what happened for the first couple of months was the shit storm blew in. I was the victim of fraud. We’re talking, thousands of dollars. My savings account was dwindling, I was in the midst of a major creative block that threw me into panic mode. I messed up my back. There was an impending lawsuit on the horizon and I was getting a clusterf*ck of closed doors and hard ‘no’s’.
It made me question my own judgment.
It confirmed all my worst fears that as soon as I decided to “go big” and swing for the fences, maybe I couldn’t pull it off. Maybe this go-all-in business was all just a lie? Or maybe I had an overinflated view of what I deserved?
But somehow, I hung in there, and this is what I realized:
Number 1. In order to get different results, we have to do different things, which often involves a ”clean out” to create a blank space for a new life.
Left to our own accord, we’re not so great at the clean-out process because; we don’t like the discomfort that change brings, we don’t want to hurt other people’s feelings by cutting them out of our lives, we think we can do it in baby steps, and we think we can overlook the little things because they’re so small, that in the grand scheme of things it’s not so bad.
So, the Universe takes over to help.
And number 2. Because I was trying to create my “new life”, I had to change the mindset that had created my “old life”. Clearing old patterns takes a minute. The shit storm was just the last remnants of my
old thinking.
Through the process …
I read a TON of books.
I bathed my earholes in powerful conversations via podcasts and in real life.
I organized my living space top-to-bottom.
I turned off ALL notifications on my phone.
I unsubscribed from EVERYTHING that didn’t support the step I was on.
I started saying no to almost all requests.
And I journaled my heart out.
What I had set out to do was build a beautiful life, and what ended up happening is that it turned into building a beautiful me.
I don’t know if you have all the same stuff to clean up as I did- if so, hellllooooo kindred spirit – but what I can tell you is that it’s worth whatever shit storm that comes your way.
